About the Game

League of the Damned is a Indie survival game for PC being developed by one man. It is primarily a pseudo 3d top down shooter featuring a dynamic lighting engine. It takes place on a zombie filled island off of America, and focuses on using everything and anything you can find to survive. The aim of the game is to mix both tactics, horror, and adrenaline in the storyline with sheer fun and replayability in the survival modes. The game offers four main modes that split the gameplay up. Each mode will be substantial and feature multiplayer versions.

GAMEPLAY TYPES
  • STORYLINE(1 player) – The full plot and sandbox features following The League of the Damned attempting to survive. The player leads a group of survivors and plays through the story while exploring and surviving on the island. While there is a plot, the player is left to decide what they really want to do on their own.
  • MISSIONS(1-2 players) – A series of missions following an army recruit focusing on high scores and timing through the missions, while also offering a variety of fast paced gun play.
  • SURVIVAL(1-4 players) – Survive increasingly hard waves of zombies using points earned by killing to unlock new guns, refill ammo, unlock new areas and activate traps. Focuses on surviving and high scores. New maps unlocked as you progress.
  • MULTIPLAYER SANDBOX(2-4 players) – Players are thrown into a randomly generated city with some starting tools between them and have to survive by finding a safe house, food and weapons. If a player dies, its game over.
Multiplayer for the game is handled via a server which can be set up through the client of one player.

WEAPONS AND TOOLS (STORYLINE AND SANDBOX ONLY)

Since so much of the game is based on survival, the player must use whatever they can fine. Because of this, the game will feature the ability to construct a work bench to adapt and add onto the tools and weapons you collect. You will also be able to carry a certain number of these tools with you, which comes in handy when you are out on a long night treck and your ammunition runs dry. Materials for building can be found everywhere, and these materials can also be used to add to your safe house.

SAFE HOUSE (STORYLING AND SANDBOX ONLY) and BUILDINGS

As the city is crawling with zombies, it is always a good idea to create a defendable location.Materials can be used to barracade and make storage areas for food and munnitions. Which building become your safe house is up to you, and you may have to move around a lot, if you are overwehlmed. Thanks to the top down view, any building you enter is immediately visible, with the roof fading away to reveal the inside. Furniture can be rearranged for either practicality, or possibly even comfort.

WAVES (SURVIVAL ONLY)

In Survival mode, increasingly hard waves of enemies are thrown at you, as, using the points you gain from kills, you upgrade weapons and advance to better defendable parts of the map. More maps are unlocked as you get highscores in previous maps, and a leaderboard will be shown on the website. Extra maps will be added to this, and the mission mode in DLC once the game is released.

GRAPHIC STYLE

As stated above, the graphic style is top down pseudo 3d, enphasised by a dynamic lighting system with light and day features. The graphics style is similar to the original GTAs, but for a 1366x768 resolution. The main characters as well as the zombies are all hand drawn and animated to add an extra layer of depth. The zombies all have a built in death and blood system, which alters the death and gore depending on the type of bullet shot at them and the range.

VEHICLES, MISSIONS, MULTIPLAYER, and so much more

This project is my main project and is a culmination of years of programming and graphic design experience. Thats not to say this will be my best project ever, and certainly that it won't be my last. But it will definately be my best so far. There is so much more to this game that I will add in news posts at a later date.
