Shit.

Title says it all. A couple of days ago I had an unfortunate turn of events then resolved with my motherboard giving up on life. While I (obviously) have backups of what I was currently woring on, they were a few days old, and the current form of he game runs at about 5 fps on my laptop, which isn't ideal. So I'm spending some time purely coding and writing the game's script while I wait for my new motherboard to arrive. Ah well.

Last Stand Mode

The Last Stand mode of LotD is a survive/defense mode for 1-4 players. The player(s) must survive increasingly tougher and faster waves of zombies using weapons either found or bought. Barricades can be made to stop zombies from entering and doors can be opened with collected money for killing to advance to more defendable locations. This mode will take place across a variety of different maps, seperate from the campaign, but telling small, seperate stories of the 4 main characters (more info on which is to come). Each map will have a unique feature, and vary in size from the others. On release, there will be four Last Stand maps, each unlocked after getting to a certain round in the previous, but more will be added through patches. The four Last Stand release maps are currently:

  • ABOVE
  • FARMHOUSE
  • CIRCUS
  • SHOCKING
The engine for this mode is almost complete, with progressively difficult waves of zombies being generated. This will be one of the first modes completed, and so the first tech demo of LotD will probably be of this mode.

Menu Reveal and a little on game Modes

I've finished coding the menu system for the game. As this is the first thing you will see when the game begins, it had to look eye catching and interesting. The background fades in and out of focus, accompanied with an unsettling soundtrack. The blood splatter style is reflected throughout the whole project, as it is also used in the UI for the game. As you can see, the modes for the gameplay are also shown here:

The game's modes are as follows:

STORYLINE(1 player) – The full plot and sandbox features following The League of the Damned attempting to survive. The player leads the group and plays through the story.

MISSIONS(1-2 players) – A series of missions following an army recruit focusing on high scores and timing through the missions, while also offering a variety of fast paced gun play.

LAST STAND(1-4 players) – Survive increasingly hard waves of zombies using points earned by killing to unlock new guns, refill ammo, unlock new areas and activate traps. Focuses on surviving and high scores. New maps unlocked as you progress.

VERSUS ARENA(2-4 players) – Players compete in zombie killing tasks to gain the most points.

MULTIPLAYER SANDBOX(2-4 players) – Players are thrown into a randomly generated city with some starting tool s between them and have to survive by finding a safe house, food and weapons. If a player dies, its game over.

More on the seperate modes to come.

Welcome to the Official LotD Blog

Welcome to the Official Blog for League of the Damned. I'm awesomefox5, the developer. League of the Damned is an upcoming indie survival game, focusing on survival and sandbox gameplay on an infected island. The game has a variety of singleplayer and online mulitplayer modes, which incorporate all sorts of interesting systems made to give the player a real survival experience. LotD features an advanced lighting system coupled with a pseudo 3d, top down view to create tense, threatening atmospheres, with enemies in every corner. A lot of work has also been put into the gunplay, making weapons look, feel and sound not just realistic, but satisfying as well.

This blog will follow the development of this project, looking into the aspects of its creation, so please check back for information, media, progress, and opertunities to play the game. As I've said before, this is an indie project and so has no funding or help whatsoever, so support and comments are always greatfully recieved. Please feel free to look around and subscribe.
